Clarion Hotel & Suites Charitable Energy Saving Program
New Haven, CT - January 28, 2009
The Clarion Hotel & Suites has established a new
program that will commence on February 1, 2009. To help manage and to
control the costs of energy at the hotel and to recognize and honor the
hotel's guests, the Clarion Hotel & Suites will contribute one dollar
per every night stay to one of the three following charities, at the
guests election: Sierra Club, National Audubon Society, The Nature
Conservancy. To qualify for the contribution, the guest will merely
request to reuse their sheets and towels from the previous night stay.
This will only apply for a multiple night stay and will only apply at
the guest's choice.
Similar programs have been established throughout the
country at various hotels. The key difference with this program is that
instead of the hotel simply asking if guests would be willing to reuse
their towels and sheets, the Clarion Hotel is committed to recognize the
guest's support of energy conservation with a contribution to a worthy
cause helping to promote energy conservation and preservation of our
environment. The guest will also have the option of matching the hotel's
gift with a similar gift.
"We wanted to go beyond programs instituted by other
hotels and instead of taking advantage of the costs savings that would
arise from this program, use a significant portion of the savings as an
opportunity to help support worthy causes that will help our country
achieve energy independence and reduce carbon gases into the
environment," said Michael Schaffer, Managing Partner of the Clarion
Hotel and Principal of C. A. White.
C.A. White, a local Real Estate and Development
Company, has operated hotels, shopping centers, office complexes, and
apartment buildings in the State of Connecticut and New York. The
company is owned by the Schaffer family which has been actively involved
in the business community for over 80 years and has played an important
role in civic organizations and political activities for 3 generations.
The family views this program as a natural extension of its commitment
to this community and to the country to actively play a role and take a
leadership position is confronting our challenges and to make a
difference. In addition to this program, C. A. White has worked closely
with UI to identify opportunities at the hotel and its other properties
to manage the use of energy and to implement energy savings programs in
all its 20 plus properties. The Clarion Hotel & Suites located in the
heart of Hamden at 2260 Whitney Avenue is a Gold Award Hotel in the
Clarion system and has achieved recognition for its level of service and
product features with 103 rooms, a Willoughby's coffee lounge, in-door
pool and spa, conference facility, exercise room and business center.
The Clarion Hotel & Suites has been recognized by Choice Hotels International for supporting Green Practices.
